Windsor Chair CampsInterested in learning to make a Windsor chair? Come to Chair Camp in beautiful Lancaster County, PA. Immerse yourself in the craft and construction of chairmaking. Enjoy a learning environment with a small group of like-minded adults. While you are visiting the farming country you have many options for after hours or on the weekend; dining, entertainment, shopping and sightseeing. LOOP BACK CHAIRYour first time at chair camp, you will make a loop back chair also known as a bow back. You will rive spindles and loop from a white oak log, steam bend the loop, turn maple legs on a lathe and hand scoop a pine seat. After you have completed all the components, you will then assemble your first chair. CONTINUOUS ARM CHAIR After making the beginner’s loop back chair, you are now ready to learn the construction of a more complex continuous arm chair. In making this chair, you will apply the skills and processes learned in the loop back class. The continuous arm chair requires additional spindles and more intricate turnings than the loop back. SACK BACK CHAIR In this camp you will make an intermediate level Windsor chair. All the skills and processes from the two previous chairs are required. Additionally, in this camp you will now learn to assemble two steam bent parts: the arm rail and loop. If you do not wish to make different styles, you can continue to build your set of matching chairs. Once you have completed a set of 4 windsor chairs, you may be invited to make a trestle or tavern table for the cost of materials only, no tuition. Chair Camp Tuition: $1200/class * Individual class instruction by appointment. |
